Top Comment: I’m a bit confused with the goal of aiming for fintech. I’m in a fintech startup and it involves a lot of full stack development. Unless you’re aiming to be in role more like a business analyst, devops, or cyber security. It’s technically still just “web dev” stuff. CRUD apps will always hold the lionshare of jobs because that’s what people need and the same applies to freelancing. There are other ways of making money as a student. I recommend going on roadmaps.sh just to see if anything else would interest you.

What are the everyday struggles you face as a freelance web dev?

I’ve been doing some freelance web development on the side and I keep noticing certain things that are way harder than they should be. For example, following up with clients about unpaid invoices takes up more mental energy than the actual coding sometimes. Another one is putting together a clean portfolio that doesn’t feel outdated the second you make it.
I’m curious what other issues you all run into when freelancing as a dev. Are there tasks you wish you could automate or things you constantly feel stuck doing that aren’t coding? Would love to hear your experiences.
